In Loving Memory of

Glenna Margaret Miller

Glenna Miller was born on June 11, 1925 in Currie, Minnesota to Walter and Glenna Jensen Sweetman.  She grew up in Currie and graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in 1943.  Following high school Glenna attended St. Catherine College in St. Paul, MN graduating in 1947.  Glenna then taught math and chemistry in Lamberton, MN for one year before taking a teaching position in Slayton.   On June 16, 1951 she and Charles Miller were married at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie.  Following their marriage they made their home in North Mankato, MN.  Glenna remained at home with their three daughters.  In 1959 they returned to Slayton.  Glenna spent many years working as a substitute teacher and tutor for math and chemistry.  She also sold real estate with Charlie for many years.  Glenna and Charlie loved spending time at the cabin on Lake Shetak.  They enjoyed travelling and spent many winters in Naples, FL.  Charlie passed away on June 30, 1995.  In 1997 Glenna sold the family home and moved to a duplex in Slayton.  Glenna passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at her home in Slayton at the age of 91.  She was an active member of St. Ann’s Church where she served on the Church Council, Finance Council, Usher, taught Faith Formation and was past President of the CCW.  She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America where she served as Regent and held many offices within the organization.  Glenna was very active in her community whether it was with Murray County Hospice, RSVP, 4-H, Plum Creek Library, American Cancer Society, Girl Scout or sending packages to soldier overseas.  In 2014 she was named as one of the Exceptional Woman of Southwest Minnesota. Glenna loved spending time with her family, writing poetry, reading, playing bridge, walking with the girls, doing Sudoku puzzles, and volunteering.

Survivors include her three daughters and their spouses, Marcia Roy of Minneapolis, MN, Sue and Gary Johnson of Slayton, MN and Mary and Tim Meaden of Slayton, MN, six grandchildren and their families, Chad and Shelby Roy and Vivian, Kyle Ohme and Laura Goltz and Halle and Grady, Kyle Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Colton Johnson, and Cassi and Mike Grimmius and Tucker, one sister, Marcia Lowe of St. Paul, MN, and one sister-in-law, Kathleen Sweetman of Currie, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charlie, brother, John Sweetman, two sisters, Mary Prieto, and Fran Blenkush and her husband, Gus, and one brother-in-law, David Lowe.

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The organist is Sharon Lais.  The song leader is Ann Lowe. Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.
