William Gerrit Cuperus

William “Bill Cuperus, the son of Gerrit and Evelyn (Buwalda) Cuperus, was born on October 16, 1926 in Okabena, MN. He grew up in Lakefield and then Dundee and attended Country School Dist. 19 and Fulda High School, graduating in 1944. Bill was united in marriage to Joyce Kuehl on July 25, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived on a farm near Dundee until 1968 when they moved to a farm near Fulda. They moved into Fulda in 1989 after their retirement. Bill entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda in January of 2012 and passed away there on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the age of 90. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN and a past member of Dundee Lutheran where he was very active. Bill was also a Farm Bureau Member where he had served as President, the Fulda senior Citizens and was the Murray County Citizen of the year in 1997. He also belonged to the Worthington Farmers Elevator Board and the Fulda Lion’s Club. Bill’s family was his treasure and farming his passion. He enjoyed a game of cards and was always a winner.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cuperus of Fulda, MN 5 children, Claire (Mohamed) Jamal of Austin, TX, Marsha (William) Beyer of St. Croix Falls, WI, Gerrit (Jill) Cuperus of Stillwater, OK, Burend (Jan) Cuperus of Fulda, MN and Kris (Beth) Cuperus of Fulda, MN; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, John Cuperus of Fulda, MN; many nieces nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Annie Ebbinga and Katherine Olsem and brothers, Gerben and Burend Cuperus.

Funeral Services

Faith Lutheran Church Avoca, MN at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 12, 2016 with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating.  The organist is Sherri Isder. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
