In Loving Memory of

Joan Mary McCormick

Joan McCormick was born on June 5, 1933 in St. Kilian, Minnesota to Bernard and Agnes Diekmann Schroer.  She grew up in St. Kilian and attended country school.  On June 29, 1963 she and Glen McCormick were married at St. Mary’s Church in Worthington, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton where Joan did in home daycare for many years.   She later worked at the Ridotto Inn in Slayton and in 1982, Joan started working at the Slayton Manor in housekeeping. Glen passed away in 1992.  Due to failing health on August 26, 2013 Joan moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton and passed away there on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the age of 80.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton.  Joan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, embroidering, crocheting, dancing, doing crossword puzzles and vacationing with her sisters.   

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Vaughn and Stasia McCormick of Lakefield, MN, Ben and Kristi McCormick of Albertville, MN, and Maria and Dean Schreier of Currie, MN, five grandchildren, Jessica Emerson and her husband, Chad, Ben Schultz, Zackary McCormick, Joseph Schreier and Samantha Schreier, one great-grandson, Jeremy Emerson and eight siblings and their spouses, Victor and Kathleen Schroer of Le Center, MN, Alverna and Vern Lovell of Galt, CA, Carol Holm of Minnetonka, MN, Cecilia and Ralph Urcan of Los Angeles, CA, Dan and Jo Schroer of Joplin, MO, June and Jim Brust of Russell, MN, Jane and Wayne Sazama of Round Lake, MN, and Connie and Kelly Vortherms of Worthington, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glen McCormick, two sisters, Bernadette Moore and Shirley Brower and one brother, Raymond Schroer.

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrews.  The song leader is Rita Lear with special music by Dennis Moore and Jonathan Moore.  The pallbearers are Todd Holm, Brian Sailor, Mark Schroer, Jason Brust, Tony Sazama and Ben Schultz.  Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Slayton, MN.    

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer services at 6:00 p.m.  Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
